Muriel’s Obituary
Latta, Muriel Myrtle – Pugwash/Malagash: It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Myrtle Latta announce her death on July 14, 2020, after a brief illness in the Cumberland Regional Hospital, Amherst. Born in Malagash on April 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Allen Moody Langille and Lucille Rae (Vincent) Langille. Muriel was a devoted wife to the late George Latta for 52 years. Together they raised their 5 boys, fully enjoying their involvement with hockey and broomball, a good dance or card party. Week nights found Muriel playing her much loved bingo. Mom will be remembered for her unconditional love of her sons, Kody (Shelley), Oakhill; Shannon (Colleen), Hfx.; Tony (Pauline), Chalk River, Ont.; Parker (dec.); Morgan (Dawn), Malagash. She was a proud Nan to Kaleb and Emily, Alicia and Courtney, Brittany, Tiffany and Melody and being a great grandmother to Keegan and Kayden, and most recently, Myla brought her further joy. For 38 years Muriel was a devoted employee of Canada Post as the mail driver for Malagash, retiring only when her eyesight made it necessary. Her grandkids have fond memories of getting to go with Nan on the mail run which always ended with an ice cream treat. Known for her baking skills, she was often called upon to provide baked sweets and bread for local suppers and fundraising events. A source of personal pride was that she taught all her boys successfully how to cook and bake, something their partners are grateful for. Surviving are her siblings, Ella, Shirley, Leona, Jessie and Ken. Muriel’s last 6 years were spent living in Pugwash with her companion, Frank McQueen. Together they enjoyed social events, especially playing Mr. and Mrs. Claus at holiday events. Her fortitude and strength of character over the years were to be admired. During the years of caring for Parker during his lifelong illness and then accompanying George to every dialysis treatment, she never once thought of herself. Typical of her, she was working hard to overcome this latest health challenge with minimal complaint. Unfortunately, it was not to be. It brings us comfort knowing that she is having a reunion with her beloved parker and George. A graveside funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, July 20th at Miner’s Cemetery in Malagash with Rev. Connie McNamara officiating. Those attending are asked to observe COVID-19 regulations by wearing masks and observing social distancing. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter’s Funeral Home, (902-657-3288) Tatamagouche. Memorial donations to Miners’ Cemetery or Lunenburg/Queens Region Special Olympics would be appreciated.
