Memorial Donation
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Caleb James Carter announces his passing on Wednesday July 15, 2020 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre at the age of 80 years. Born in Channel-Port aux Basques, Caleb was the son of the late William and Gladys (nee Blagdon) Carter and Alex and Phoebe Carter. He was predeceased by his loving wife Catherine (Kay) Carter (2013) of 50 years, brothers Frank and Ronald Carter, mother and father in law Emily (nee Moore) and Lockland McDougall, brothers in law Chesley, Duncan, Martin, Johnny and Lockie McDougall, Patrick Walsh and Tom White.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his son Bill (Betty) Carter of Port aux Basques and granddaughters Rebecca and Kathleen, who were his pride and joy. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters, Vida Walsh of Mississauga Ontario, Veronica (Ignatius) Walsh of Plate Cove West, Brenda Reid of Corner Brook, Jessie Stowe of St. John’s, Dianne (Hubert) Butt of St. John’s and Wanda (John) McCarthy of Benoit’s Cove. Also brothers and sisters in law Hughie (Mae) McDougall of Lavoy AB, Kevin (Yvonne) McDougall of Cape Ray, Jim (Doreen) MacDougall of O’Regan’s, Vince (Brenda) McDougall of Port aux Basques, Annie White of O’Regan’s, Frances (Tom) Tobin of Port aux Basques and a large circle of cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Caleb was an electrician by trade, and after retiring he enjoyed spending more time at his cabin in the valley, as well as playing checkers and chess, his favorite pass times.
The family would like to send a sincere thank you to his wonderful care workers Eileen, Tracy and Liz and the Doctors and nursing staff at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre for the care they provided.
In keeping with Caleb’s wishes cremation will follow. There will be no formal visitation or memorial service at this time. A private interment at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Trans Canada Highway will be officiated by Reverend Jane Allen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James Anglican Church Building Fund.
