Tributes
Christian Patrick DOWD died at home surrounded by his loved ones on July 8, 2020. Son of the late Patrick Owen, he is survived by his mother Mechthilde, his wife Tawnia, his daughters Chloe, Alexandra and Maya, his brother Bishop Thomas Dowd, and his sister Miriam Browning with her husband Michael and their children Brigid, Paxton and Temperance.
Chris was diagnosed with ALS three years ago, and was determined to live every day to the full. We will remember him for his welcoming smile, his listening ear, his sense of humour, and his love of people. He will get to heaven with his guitar pick in his pocket, ready to start to play once again.
In lieu of flowers Chris asked that you plant a tree, which you can do yourself or through a charity such as Tree Canada. You can also make a donation to the ALS Society of Canada.
Visitation details:
The visitation will take place at Tubman Funeral Home (3440 Richmond Rd, Nepean, Ontario) on Thursday July 16 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Given the public health restrictions it will take place outside, to allow for a maximum number of people to participate. The close family will surround Chris, and like we did for his birthday a few weeks ago those who wish to visit will be able drive up in their cars to offer their condolences, to receive a visitation card, to say a prayer, etc. As you can see this approach helps us all stay safe, so please do not hesitate to come.
Funeral details:
The funeral will be at Holy Redeemer parish (44 Rothesay Dr, Kanata, Ontario) on Friday, July 17, at 3 pm. As Chris has many friends in Montreal the afternoon time was selected to allow them to come, get a bite to eat, have the funeral, and make it home in the evening. The church can hold 150-175 people safely with social distancing, and in the event even more people come we will have a transmitter so that those who must remain in the large parking lot can listen in on their car radio. Please note that due to current COVID-19 regulations all those inside the church will have to wear a mask. The funeral will also be transmitted via a live video feed from inside the church via the Facebook page of the parish.
