Roy Boutilier 2020

William ‘Roy’ Boutilier Alder Point
With saddened hearts, we regret to announce the peaceful passing of my wonderful husband, our caring father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather, William Roy Boutilier, in the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at the age of 91.
Born in Little Pond on July 3, 1929, Roy was the son of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Jessome) Boutilier.
Roy served in the Canadian Merchant Navy from the age of 15, travelled to Hong Kong, Burma and India, serving on the ships, the Banff Park and the Mulgrave Park to aid in the war effort. Roy received Honors and Awards such as The 1939-1945 Volunteer Service Medal, The Atlantic Star, The Queen’s 50th Jubilee Medal and the Burma Star. Roy worked for Devco for 41 years. He was president of the Alder Point Community Development Association, Board member of the Bras d’Or Credit Union, Board Member of Bras d’Or Co-op and Member of St. Anne’s Church in Alder Point. He was appointed honorary Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83 Florence. He was recognized for his long time, unwavering commitment to the NDP. He loved travelling to the schools for the annual Remembrance Day services, where his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren were proud to see their Grampy. Roy’s greatest joy was spending time with his loving family whom he always greeted from his kitchen rocking chair or garage swing. We will all miss him dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Esther (Burton) Boutilier, his ten children; Ralph (Judy), Kenny (Sheila), Pauline, Danny, Janet (Francis), Lawrence (Naomi), Joanne (Wayne), Joey (Donna), Jerry (Nancy), Nicole (Kenny), twenty two grandchildren: Tammy, Stacy, Raylene, Derek, Jason, Jody, Carrie, Lisa, Roy, Wayne, Michelle, Leah, Jeff, Janna, Justin, Vanessa, Bhreanna, Jenny, Brody, Amanda, Jessica, Callie and thirty six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Marie (Steve), Leona, Violet and brother Gordon (Barb), sister-in-law Helen Boutilier, brother-in-law Doug Wilcox and many lifelong friends and neighbors especially Murdock and Pearl, Tommy and Louise, Cletus and Yvonne.
He was predeceased by his grandson Bobby Joe Ryan and brothers Delaney (Claire), Melvin, Reg (Mary), Bernard and sisters Fran, Annabelle (Lloyd), Eunice (Tom), his brother-in-law Mike Popovich and daughters-in-law Linda and Laverna.
We would like to thank Cape Breton County Homemakers for their loving care of Da while he was at home. Special thanks to Harbour View DVA unit for your exceptional care of Da. You treated him like family as if he was your own grandfather. This gave us great comfort during these difficult Covid times, that he was so loved and looked after by the wonderful staff. Thank you to the staff at the palliative care unit at the CBRH for your comfort and care during his final hours.
The legacy you leave will live on in our hearts forever but…Hotdog Day will never be the same! Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
