TRASK (Kendrick) Doris Phyllis, – Age 88, of Yarmouth passed away at Yarmouth Regional
Hospital on July 8 th , 2020. Born in Shag Harbour, NS on July 18 , 1931. The eldest child of Ruth Constance (Greenwood) and Keith Melbourne Kendrick. She was pe-deceased by infant son Robert Keith, husband Robert (Bob) Blackburn Trask, brother Ivan, Keith Kendrick, sister-in-law Zelma Joyce (Nickerson) Kendrick. Survived by brother Neil Kendrick, sister-in-law Marion (Goreham) Kendrick: children Sherryl Trask (David Arthur), Yarmouth; Brian Trask (Cindy Goudey), Atlanta, GA; Elaine Trask, Dartmouth: grandchildren Jonathan Murphy (Arien Johnston), Kentville; Andrew Trask (Kaitlyn Hoecker), New York, NY; Melissa Trask (David Sherfinski), Fairfax, VA; Erin Wolfe (Noah Field), Dartmouth and niece and nephews Linda Goreham (Kendrick), Forbes Point; Reggie Kendrick, Shag Harbour; Cyril Kendrick, Shag Harbour.
In 1948 Doris began her life’s work as an educator. Unconventionally she began teaching at
Hibbard’s Brook School, Coffinscroft for two years, before receiving her formal teaching
education and license at the Provincial Normal College in 1950. Her initial assignment was in
Smith’s Cove. After marrying the love of her life Bob and starting their family, she continued her
career, teaching at Hebron Elementary School and the Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High
School. She was a faithful adherent of Beacon United Church, past board member of VON Yarmouth. Doris and Bob together were part of the group that created the Yarmouth Food Bank and worked tirelessly as volunteers to ensure its success. She spent many years (70’s- 80’s) performing the administrative functions of Minor Hockey in Yarmouth and supporting Bob’s deep involvement in the local Hockey Community.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 17,2020 at 2 P.M. from Beacon United Church with Rev. Sharon Lohnes and Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiating. Interment will follow in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there is limited seating available.
