Lovingly remembering Shirley Arlene Chorney who passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at the age of 89 years. Admired by her loved ones for her independent, passionate and spirited approach to the world, Shirley had a love of creative writing and travel. The most recent years of her life kept her at home but she had a rich tapestry of memories and many loved ones to keep her company.
Born on September 20, 1930 in McLeod, Alberta Shirley grew up and married Bert Chorney with whom she raised 5 children. Prior to the birth of her children Shirley ventured into the world as a business owner of the White Elephant Gift Shoppe. As more children arrived to be loved Shirley shifted her focus to being a full-time Mom until her kids were grown. Her next endeavor was a career with Alberta Health Services as a Health Care Aide which kept her busy for many years. Throughout these years Shirley was an active member of Toastmasters International and the Red Hat Society. Her next adventure brought her to the Red Deer Regional Hospital in a volunteer capacity. Eventually things came full circle as Shirley opened the Pandora’s Box Gift Shop in Red Deer where she spent her final working years before retiring. Shirley was a vibrant individual, always willing to share thoughts and advice about everything she had learned throughout her life.
She will be missed by her surviving loved ones; children, Bradley (Diana), Gayle (Rob), Jayne (Marvin), and Debborah (Garry); grandchildren, Wayne, Trina (Stew), Melanie (Scott), Nathan, Julie (Jill), Arlene (Brad), Jessica (Mike), Shelly, Matthew (Rebekah), and Dominique (Thomas), Richard; great-grandchildren, (14); and great-great-grandchildren (4). Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Minnie Fritz; brother, Byron Fritz; husband, Bert Robert Chorney; and youngest son, Mark Chorney. A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Shirley Chorney June 21st 2020..
