1939-2020
It is with sadness that the family of Rev. Charles Ernest
Smart announces his death at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on June
19, 2020, at the age of 80. Born in East York Township, NB, on August
19, 1939, he was the loving husband of Linden (Parsons) Smart of
Fredericton.
In addition to his wife, Linden, Charles is survived by his
brother, Thomas Smart (Irene) of Ontario; niece, Cathy; nephew, Greg,
as well as a great niece and nephew. Charles was predeceased by his
parents, Hubert and Charlotte Smart; sister, Dorothy
Radburn.
Charles received his diploma in Theology in 1973. He went on
to receive his degree in Theology the same year. He was
ordained as a deacon in 1984 and thereafter an ordained Priest in
1985. Charles served in many parishes and diocese over the years. His
last posting was at St. Anne’s Anglican Church in
Campobello, NB. Charles and his wife retired in Fredericton. He
attended Saint John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Fredericton. He
was devoted to his faith and enjoyed sharing this faith with his
community.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held
from Saint John the Evangelist Anglican Church on Monday, June 29,
2020, at 11:00 am. The Rt. Rev’d David Edwards will officiate assisted
by Rev. Paul Ranson. Covid-19 related social distancing restrictions
will be followed. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery.
For those who wish, donations in Charles’ memory can be made
to the Saint John the Evangelist Building Fund.
