It is with deep and profound sadness we announce the passing of George Halim Gareb.
Cherished husband, father, “Gido”, uncle, brother, and dear friend to many. Survived by his adoring wife Rose, his three daughters and their families: Nelly (George, Jessica, Matthew); Mimi (Frank, Amanda, Joseph) and Nina (Andrew, Tyler, Julia); his two sisters and numerous nieces/nephews.
George was born in Saghbine, Lebanon and immigrated to Canada in 1954. George lived in Vancouver for several years before settling in Burnaby. He married Rose in 1964 and over the next 56 years they were inseparable, working hard to build a life together. He owned/operated a small business close to his residence and their home was always open for coffee and lively conversation.
George was a dynamic personality with a generous spirit and great sense of humour.
He enjoyed hockey, fishing, being at the lake, games and gardening. Most of all, he was a dedicated family man and proud Grandpa; he was happiest when hosting large family gatherings, being surrounded by all he loved. George spent many years as an active member of the Lion’s Club, the Rotary and the Gizeh Shriners – he believed in giving back to the country that gave him so many opportunities. George was also a member of St. Michael’s Parish and St. George’s Melkite Catholic Parish.
The Gareb family would like to thank the amazing nurses/doctors at Royal Columbian Hospital for the care they provided to George. In lieu of flowers, donations to the RCH Foundation are appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when large gatherings are permitted.
A funeral mass will be celebrated by invitation only on Thursday, June 25th at 11:00 am. The funeral mass can be viewed at www.legacystreaming.com/kearney/
The journey continues…
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of George Halim Gareb July 11 1935 June 19 2020..
