SMITH, Clyde Archibald – 92, Roseway Manor, Shelburne, formerly of Port La Tour passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 in the Manor. Born in Baccaro on December 9, 1927, he was a son of the late William and Hilda (Trott) Smith. Clyde was an active member of Port La Tour United Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and Youth Group Leader to name a few. During the war he served as a member of the Salvation Army. He was one of the founding members of the Port La Tour Volunteer Fire Department. Fishing and lobstering were his life but when the fishing industry closed down he worked as a carpenter on Roseway Hospital and as boat builder. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Alice (Salisbury) Smith; son, Timothy (Cindy); daughter, Donna Newell; grandchildren, Jennifer (Troy) Sears, Alyssa (James) Chetwynd, TJ (Sarah) Smith, Travis (Stephanie) Smith, Jacob Smith; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Rylee and Keigan Sears, William and Sarah Chetwynd, and Morgan Smith; sister, Deserta Graham; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by infant son, Kenneth; siblings, David, Deserta Pearl, Carl (all in infancy); brothers, Edward, Elton, Simeon, Daniel; sister, Gertrude; and son-in-law, Richard. There will be a family service held Thursday, 2 p.m., at H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, with Rev. Rory Lennox officiating. There will be a livestream of this service on the Huskilson’s website (www.huskilson.net) for those unable to attend due to gathering restrictions. Interment to follow in the Woodside Cemetery, Port La Tour. Memorial donations in his name may be made to Port La Tour United Baptist Church Roof Fund.
