Beverley’s Obituary
Beverley Maki-Adair, of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the age of 77 years.
Beautiful baby Beverley was born October 19, 1942, and raised in Usona and Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
She lived and studied in a number of cities around the globe before marrying and creating her two adoring daughters Nikki and Kori.
Beverley’s post-secondary achievements, including a thesis supporting young adults with Down syndrome, and formal experience in education, psychology and nursing delivered her diverse career opportunities ranging from the design of provincial programs and services for children, youth and young adults with developmental disabilities to teaching and mentoring nursing students through the Order of the Grey Nuns and Royal Alexandria hospitals in Edmonton, Alberta.
Beverley was a member of MENSA, bridge and firearms clubs; played competitive tennis and cribbage; and was an avid gardener, master at handwork projects, and whiz crossword puzzle solver studied by a project team of University of Calgary graduate students. She had an enduring passion for live and recorded comedy as well as opera, orchestral and flamenco guitar music. As a music lover and former fashion model with very long legs, Beverley had a flare for calisthenics and ballroom dancing.
Beverley’s interest in science and literature spanned all genres, and she supported libraries and reading programs locally and around the world. With a keen wit and penchant for language and philosophy, she may be best remembered for her sparkling sense of humour; living the words of John Keats: “Beauty is truth, truth is beauty;” and embodying the divine qualities of love, joy, peace, harmony, generosity, helpfulness, kindness and compassion.
She is survived by her daughter Nikki Maki-Adair and son-in-law Danny Markowicz, Vancouver, British Columbia; daughter Kori Maki-Adair, Calgary, Alberta; sister Rena Fendrick (nee Maki), Whitehorse, Yukon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Beverley was predeceased by her parents Lillian Maki (nee James) and Henry Maki, Wetaskiwin, Alberta; brother John Maki, Calgary, Alberta; sister Marlene Maki-Michalski, Honolulu, Hawaii; and brother Darrell Maki, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Though public services are not permitted at this time, her daughters Nikki and Kori invite messages, memories and requests for memorial cards by post (with return mailing address) through www.albertaburialcremation.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wetaskiwin Public Library programs and services are warmly welcomed.
