Obituary of Ruth Barry
It is with great sadness that the grateful family of Mary Ruth Barry (McGuiggan) announces her passing on Thursday, June 18, 2020. Ruth was born on October 22, 1926, the only child of Leo and Ellen McGuiggan (Mc Cormick). Ruth was predeceased by her husband Peter on October 30, 1990.
Ruth was a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy and as a young women worked at the Bank of Montreal on King Street. Ruth was a devoted wife and mother. She raised her seven children with the gift of unconditional love and support.
Ruth is survived by her children: Ellen Turnbull (James) of Saint John, Mary Jane Barry of Ancaster, Ontario, Colleen Breen of Rothesay, Peter Barry (Ruth) of Quispamsis, Susan Jensen (Mark) of Halifax, Cathy McIntyre (Gary) of Sus, and Joan Hoar (Terry) of Quispamsis; grandchildren: Alexandra, Emily, James, Nicholas, Heather, Kimberly, Timothy, Jacob, Jenna, Jillian, Colin, Ashley, Ryan, and seven great grandchildren. Ruth has a large extended family of nephews, nieces, and cousins on the Barry side of the family. She has one remaining special cousin of her generation, Paul Costantino of Boston. They shared wonderful memories of Mc Cormick’s Island as children.
Ruth’s family would like to thank the Physicians, Nursing staff as well as Extramural Nurses who helped care for Ruth during her brief illness. They selflessly serve their community.
Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119). Due to current health advisories a private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay. Interment to take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation – Neurosurgery- ICU, Canadian Red Cross HELP, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
