Donald Thomas Neil
April 13, 1942 – June 17, 2020
Today, Wednesday, June 17, 2020, I lost Don Neil, my best friend, my love, my rock and the father of our two children, Rachael Green and Matthew Neil.
Don worked hard all his life to provide a good life for us. It was his idea to move to Osprey, where his family’s roots run deep, and I never regretted that decision as we found lots to do. Bowling and snowmobiling, Kinsmen, visiting friends, and dances in winter. Many of the summer weekends were spent haying with Uncles Bill and Elmer and Brother Jim because Don worked in the Shipyards, then drove truck after it closed. We built up our farm and raised many fine calves. When Don finally decided to retire and sell the last of the cows they knew they had had a good owner and decided to come home, an amazing journey of more than 12 kms.
Don was always interested and involved in all the activities his children enjoyed. With Matthew he became part of the hockey organization in Osprey as coach and eventually president and enjoyed baseball with Rachael. He was proud of their academic achievements and was happy when they found such good partners to marry, Kevin Green for Rachael and Virginia Abbott for Matt. Don quietly enjoyed his grandchildren, Mary and Charlotte Green and Alex and Anya Neil, and loved to hear what they were interested and involved in.
Don was predeceased by his sister Judy Irons and by his best friend and Brother Jim. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Faye Neil, nieces Lynn Marie Brocanier (Greg), Heather Neil (Barry), and Allison Way (Rob), and his nephews David Neil, Jim Irons, Jeff Irons (Cheryl), and the many friends he enjoyed having a beer with.
I will miss someone to have good arguments with, his great sense of humour, his steadfast spirit, common sense, and all the support he offered me in any endeavour I wanted to undertake. He loved home and family above all things.
Any donations can be made to the Kinsmen Club of Feversham or the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation in Collingwood.
