Eddy Howard 1956 2020

Obituary of Eddy Howard
HOWARD – Eddy, of Sudbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 14, 2020 in his 65th year. Beloved brother of Roger of Mindemoya, James, Sally (Jim) Lanktree, Cathy Haskett all of Gore Bay, Ken, Alfred Jr. (Tracey), Marlene Howard all of Guelph, Jerry (Michelle) of Grand Valley, Christopher of Richmond Hill and Paula Howard (Gary Kirkby) of Bowmanville. Eddy will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Leta (Brandow) Howard. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Eddy’s life will be held at a later date. Eddy was a proud Haweater. Born and bred on Manitoulin Island, Eddy loved his roots and especially his home town of Gore Bay. He loved nothing more than a trip to Island to visit family and to breathe the fresh Island air. No sooner had he crossed the bridge, than he’d be planning his next trip back. Raised on a farm, he had a love for earth, animals and a good day’s work. Part of his appreciation for the Island may have also had something to do with the pit stop in Espanola for his favourite, KFC. Eddy was a prankster, joker and was famous for pictures with his tongue sticking out. He loved a good story about an animal wreaking havoc, or kids misbehaving. He would bust out in laughter whenever a scandalous tale was told. Old movies, Fred Flintstone, the platypus song, stickers on his forehead, painted fingernails, colouring his ball caps, fishing, crafting, Eddy had a love of these things and especially the company of others. He had a special way of drawing people in. Be it through an invite for coffee, asking what you were having for supper, or to accompany him to The Island, Eddy could quickly call you a friend. Although he was quick to rip a card open and then shove it away with saying “ever cheap,” should it contain no money, he was also a very generous person. Eddy would receive a gift and then give away his belongings to others. He liked treating people to coffee and will be forever remembered for the pictures of homes that he would draw and give away to others. His care and concern for others was apparent and every year he would lead an outreach effort to give to people in need in the city. He was a man with a huge heart and a desire to give. The family would like to thank the staff at L’Arche Sudbury for the care and friendship for Eddy as part of their community for many years. Memorial donations may be made to L’Arche Sudbury through their website www.larchesudbury.org as expressions of sympathy.
