In loving memory of Mae Lillian Hugli (nee Mae Lillian Hood) who passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 9th, 2020¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ at Health Sciences North at the age of 96 years.
Mae was born on December 19, 1923 to Thomas Henry Hood and Florence Jane (Dubrey) Hood on a small farm at Ratter Lake near Markstay, Ontario where the family lived for several years. When she was ready to begin school, the family moved to Coniston where she lived for most of her life. During World War II Mae moved briefly to Toronto to work in a munitions plant in support of the Canadian war effort. Upon her return to Coniston she married James (Jim) Frederick Hugli and spent many happy years there, and at their summer camp on Wahnapitae River near Stinson. In later years, after selling the camp, they enjoyed camping with tent or trailer each summer and travelling throughout Ontario and Eastern Canada. Mae was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She and Jim participated in the many events and activities sponsored by the local Legion branch. In later years Mae was a member of the Coniston Seniors organization and enjoyed playing darts with her friends at the Colonial Inn every week. Morning coffee time with her close friends at the Colonial Inn was a regular and important part of her day. When James passed away in March 1989, Mae continued to reside in their home in Coniston until 2017 when she moved to Amberwood Suites Seniors Residence in Sudbury. She enjoyed her time there, and the family would like to thank the staff for helping to make her final years such a positive experience for her. Mae’s parents and all of her brothers and sisters – William Thomas Hood, Robin Albert Hood, John (Jack) Arthur Hood, Susan May Duncan, Roseleen Alice Wing, and Frederick James Hood – are all pre-deceased. Loving mother of Wayne Hugli (Linda), Susan Davis (Ivan), and Cynthia Graham (Gary), and cherished grandmother of Trevor Graham (Michelle), Amber Bulmer (Johnathan), Crystal Hintsa (Dave), Shane Davis, Marnie Donovan (Michael), Brianna Antanassio (Anthony), Paul Hugli (Lori), Chris Davidson (Sarah) and Ryan Davidson (Erin) and nineteen great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff on the fourth floor at Health Sciences North for caring for mom and making her comfortable during her final days.
Due to COVID-19, and at the family’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation and internment at Sudbury Civic Memorial Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Sudbury Hospice, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated. Funeral arrangement entrusted to Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
