Obituary of Ernest Johnson
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ernest “Butch” Johnson announce his passing on June 1, 2020, at his home in Rothesay, NB, surrounded by his wife and children. Born on September 5th, 1949 in Bathurst, NB, he was the son of the late Leo and Patricia (Garrett) Johnson.
Butch will always be remembered as a hardworking, proud and strong family man who took great satisfaction in a job well done. Butch’s work life included Saint John Shipbuilding as a crane operator and long haul truck driving for Brookville Transport and General Freight. Above everything else Butch was known as a master carpenter and cabinet maker. Butch took great pride in everything he built; his family and friends will be lost without his guidance, support and advice related to renovation, repair and new construction. Butch took great joy participating and competing in archery with his grandsons. He also enjoyed his weekly pool hall games of snooker with many friends.
Butch will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joan of 48 years. He will be forever missed by his children; Lori (Phillip) Webster of Rothesay, NB and Brad (Jenn) Johnson of Quispamsis, NB, and grandchildren: Ben Gormley of Mistissini, QC, Asher Gormley of Fredericton, NB, Joshua Gormley and Samuel Gormley of Rothesay, and Chloe Johnson and Lexie Johnson of Quispamsis. He is also survived by his siblings Barbara, Wayne (Joy), Stephen (Trish), Peggy (Stephen) Winchester, Danny (Angela), and Patti (Kirk) Montgomery and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Butch was predeceased by brothers Jackie and Bobby.
In keeping with Butch’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB. (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Oncology Department care of the SJRH Foundation. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com
