Obituary of David Mayes
1942 – 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of David Mayes announces his sudden passing on May 28th, 2020. David will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Margaret, his son Nigel (Gillian), his daughter Helen (Brian), five grandchildren, and his two brothers, Keith (Beryl) and Richard (Christine).
David was born in Peterborough, England and trained there as a precision machinist. After he and Margaret married, they spent five years working in a mission hospital in South Africa before immigrating to Grand Cache, Alberta and then making Kimberley their home in 1982.
David was a 36-year member of the local Lions Club and regularly used his talents to help his community. He was always up for a project and was there to lend his experience and time to family, friends, and strangers alike. David was an avid hiker, skier, and sailor and in later years his passions included engineering live steam locomotives. David is remembered as a kind, gentle, and generous man and a beloved and devoted grandfather, husband, father, brother, and friend.
Donations in memory of David may be made to the Mark Creek Lions Club (via the Kimberley branch of the Kootenay Savings Credit Union).
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
