Catharine was born to Carmel
and Ruby Smith in Brant County,
Ontario. She is predeceased by her
parents, oldest brother Richard
(2003), broth Walter (1971) and
sister Helen Cain (2016). She is
survived by nieces Anne O”Reilly
and Marlene Ternoey, both in
Ontario and nephews Peter (Ethel)
and Dick, both on Vancouver
Island.
Catharine and her family moved
to Calgary when she was a baby.
She grew up and spent most of
her adult life in Calgary. In 2000,
she moved to Long Lake Chateau
in Nanaimo, to be closer to her
sister Helen and nephews Peter
and Dick. She lived at Long Lake Chateau until 2011, when health issues
forced her to move to Dufferin Place. At that time, her sister Helen was
also at Dufferin. Her health had deteriorated in the past few years and
she passed away peacefully the afternoon of May 15.
Catharine was a very gentle lady who always had a smile for everyone.
She loved it when the pets came to visit in Dufferin. The family wishes
to extend their heart felt thanks to the Doctors, nurses and all the staff
at Dufferin Place for their thoughtful care and attention to Catharine
through this journey. The staff at Long Lake Chateau were also very
good to her during the time she lived there.
There will not be a celebration of life and Catharine’s remains are to be
cremated and will be placed alongside her parents in Calgary. The family
encourages any financial support for Dufferin Place in her memory.
