Obituary
With heavy hearts, the family of Neil Smith announces his passing, which occurred at home on May 22nd, 2020 surrounded by family and friends after a brief illness. Neil was born on April 20th, 1946 in Clark’s Harbour, Nova Scotia; a son of the late Frederick and Eva Smith, and the loving husband of Nancy (Maher) Smith.
Neil worked as a fisherman most of his life. Naturally curious and intelligent his interests ranged from geology to genealogy and his skills ranged from boat-building to goat-rearing. He dedicated much of his spare time to his church where he served many roles over the years. A man of faith and integrity, with a quiet sense of humour, he will be remembered as a strong, steady, supportive and loving presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Neil is survived by his wife Nancy, daughters Eve Sears, Becky Moore, Martha Brillant (Sean), step-children Amanda Stevens (John), Colland Harris (Angie) and Coleen Crawford (Billy); sister Blanche DesChamp (Roll), sisters-in-law Doreen Green, Carrie Cronk, brother-in-law James Harris, former spouse Elsie Smith and many nieces and nephews. He was Gramp to Julie Beaudoin, Shelby Reid, Cole, Ashley and Christian Sears, Charlotte Brillant, Samantha and Andrew Harris, Jordan Norwood, Katlynn Whalen, Nikita and Gabriella Harris, Whitney Ellis, Mariah Harris, Halen Langille and Great-Grampie to Rachel, Becca, Zoey, Brantley, Neil, Ravon, Carlie, Jayda, Isabella, Ellie, Kiera, and Sandy.
Neil was pre-deceased by his parents, sisters Jeanette Nickerson and Mildred Harris, brothers Clarence and Clyde Edwin (in infancy), son Reuben Smith and step-daughter Tanya Harris.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, with visitation being held on Sunday, May 31st from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Tabernacle Baptist Church, 19 Brinley Street, Saint John on Monday, June 1st at 11:00 a.m. Please note that Provincial guidelines are being followed, and 50 or fewer people will be permitted at the funeral home for visitation, and at the church for the funeral service. Interment will take place at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances in Neil’s memory may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church.
