It is with great sadness that I, Loretta Caramelli, announce the passing of my father, Carlo Caramelli, on April 17, 2020. Beloved husband of Anna Bracaccia Caramelli for 67 years, loving father of Loretta (Vincent) and Riccardo (Karen) and dedicated grandfather of Alexander. He will be deeply missed by all of us, including his family in Italy and his friends.
My father’s career started in Grosseto (Italy) and progressed, in chronological order, to Rome (Italy), London (England), Calgary (Alberta), Rome (Italy) and Montreal (Quebec). Among his many accomplishments, while in Calgary, he was employed by Shell and redesigned the internationally-recognized Shell logo, was the editorial cartoonist for The Albertan newspaper, and held the position of Honorary Consul for the Italian Consulate of Calgary. In Montreal, as Advertising and Public Relations Director for Pirelli Cables North America, he won many prestigious awards in Advertising and Marketing.
After his retirement, my father dedicated his life to art. Born in Tuscany, Italy, he was influenced by the Grand Masters of the Renaissance. He started painting at a very young age, inspired by his father and uncle who also painted, and his aunt, Dr. Fenenna Bartolomei (Caramelli), who was a writer and art critic. As an accomplished artist, my father’s paintings and drawings are masterpieces, and part of his legacy. One of his paintings was bought by the Canadian Museum of Civilization, where it is part of the museum’s permanent collection and recognized as Canadian patrimony.
My father’s love for art led him to teach for 25 years as a service to the community, in Saint-Bruno, Quebec. In 1988, he created his own school, Carlo Caramelli et son École, where he taught academic art. He contributed extensively to art and culture as President of the Italian Cultural Center of Quebec and member of The Arts Club of Montreal.
My father studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Milan, Italy), the Washington School of Art, and graduated in Business Management.
A caring and very modest person, my father was instantly loved by all who met him. To quote the people who knew him, he was “special” and a “deep thinker who made us think too”. A gentleman and a scholar, he was respected by all. During his life, he helped many people in need and influenced others to do the same.
Considering the present circumstances regarding the coronavirus, a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date, at Yves Légaré Funeral Complex in Longueuil, Quebec.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Carlo Caramelli 14 juin 1926
