Memorial Donation
Known as Toni or to many Momma Doucette, likely one of the most wholesome women you would have had the pleasure to meet; passed away peacefully on May 17, 2020 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, NL. Toni was predeceased by her parents, John and Lilie Hynes and brother Melvin Hynes.
Toni had an amazing journey in life. Despite the hardships, heartache and challenges that were thrown her way, she always seemed to find the strength to fight back, or the stubborn wit, as she would say. There was nothing a prayer couldn’t fix and certainly nothing St. Anthony was unable to find in Toni’s eyes.
She had a heart that made all feel at home, but took no pity on anyone willing to try their luck in a game of 120’s. She had a motherly soul that ensured all hungry bellies were full and a determined mind that kept her going.
Toni loved to paint, and in her early years created beautiful landscapes that are hung in many of her loved ones homes today. A dish was always washed with a hand knitted cloth and a bed had to be made properly before she could settle in for the night. She worried about everything and everyone and spent many a sleepless night awaiting a phone call from a loved one to know they arrived to their destination safely. She never hung up the phone without saying “I love you” and habitually never missed an episode of Coronation Street.
Toni married Hugh Doucette on April 1, 1940 and together, before his passing raised 14 children. Ted (Vanessa) Doucette, Mackie (Pat) Doucette, Olivera (Gerry) Hynes, Lillian White, Jerome Doucette, Don (Sylvia) Doucette, Melvin Doucette, Danny (Carleen) Doucette, Joey (Isabelle) Doucette, Dianne (Danny) Stapleton. Toni mourned the loss of 4 children, far to early in life. Bruce Doucette, Brett Doucette, Marie Novakovitch and Clyde Doucette were always in her thoughts and prayers. Despite such great loss Toni always believed that God had a plan and her faith remained constant throughout her life. Toni was forever thankful for the magnitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends whom she was able to meet and share wonderful moments with. She loved all with her whole heart, talked about them often and was so gracious to be a part of their lives.
Toni had many home care workers who she cared for and admired in the past few years of her life, however, she would want a special mention of Nora McLean. Nora has become more of a family member than a care provider and Toni and her family will forever be gracious for all she has done.
Toni will be sadly missed by all, but her spirit will live on in all of the hearts she has touched, the memories she has shared and the moments we have captured. God has a plan and we know that heaven has surely gained another angel. May she finally get the rest she deserves.
Donations to the Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Toni Doucette June 13 1922 May 17 2020..
