1927-2020
Hazel Hussen Mansour – 92, Truro, passed
away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro. Born in Mulgrave, she was a daughter of the late
Mohamed and Lily (Awad) Mansour.
Hazel attended Truro Academy and in her early years worked at
various places until she began working with her mother at
Lily’s Clothing Retail Shop in Truro until her retirement.
In later years Hazel provided home nursing with Canadian Red Cross.
She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church in Truro,
where she sang in the church choir.
She was very involved in her community by being a Brownie
Leader for many years, was a member of Girl Guides of Canada, R.C.A.F.
Association where she received a certificate of Merit, and past member
of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. She loved to play golf and
was the first person of Arab decent to be accepted in Truro Golf Club;
she also enjoyed curling, darts, playing cards and
dancing.
Hazel is survived by her brother, Solomon
“Lamie” Mansour, New Glasgow; sister, Rita Mix,
Moncton; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was
predeceased by her sister, Sadie Wood.
Private interment will be held in Terrace Hill Cemetery. If
so desired, donations in Hazel’s memory to Nova Scotia
Institute for the Blind are welcomed.
