Obituary
It is with joy for having loved him and sadness for having to let him go, that the family of Michael David O’Brien shares the news of his passing after succumbing to the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Michael passed away peacefully on May 7th at the Saint John Regional hospital with family at his bedside. He was the son of the late James Gerald and Elizabeth O’Brien as well as his step-mother the late Meritha O’Brien.
Michael leaves behind loving wife Dianne, his wife of 47 1/2 years, daughters; Melissa (Kenneth Robinson) and Melanie (Tim Robart), and his son Michael “Adam”(loving partner Katherine Basham). His children were his proudest stars! He was always giving praise to them for their accomplishments.
Papa was an incredible grandfather to Victoria and Olivia Robart and Kinley Robinson. He was always laughing and smiling when he saw them. They were the “apples of his eye.”
Michael is also survived by his sister Ann Allaby, of Rothesay, who he loved dearly. He will be sadly missed by his dear friend and flea market buddy Don Clark.
In earlier years he worked at the Saint John Dry Dock, Vaughn Electronics and Harold Peer Plumbing retiring after 30 plus years with NB Liquor. This was a job he loved and could not wait to go to work day to day. He was a devoted employee.
The 40 years spent trailering at Harding’s Point was his summer enjoyment. His laughter could be heard all the way to Thompsonville. He was a kindhearted, lovely man with a claim to be be vastly good with numbers, and his passing will leave many of those who knew and loved him broken hearted.
The family would like to thank Dr. Matt Greer in the Emergency Department and nurse Laurel. A big thank you to the Palliative Care Unit. God bless you all for your gentle care. A special thank you to Brittany Lozier, his caregiver. Rev. Gregory L. McMullin thank you for your prayers and listening ear. God Bless.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road ( 646-2424 ). Due to these uncertain times during COVID-19, visitation and the funeral service will be held at a later date. For those who wish, donations in his memory to the SMSB Mission Center would be most appreciated by his family.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Michael David O’Brien June 9 1948 May 7 2020 (age 71)..
