LeBLANC, Larry Joseph – During the early hours of May 6, 2020 Larry peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of his children and family at Yarmouth Heights. Born on September 22, 1925 in Lower Wedgeport he was the devoted son of Eloi and Monique Adèle LeBlanc, and loving brother to nine siblings. As a young man he left his home to work and support his family, embarking on a series of adventures he often humbly excused as trivial. Larry moved up the East Coast of Nova Scotia working numerous jobs; some of which included working as an entrepreneur (opening a Fish and Chips shop in Halifax) and travelling across Canada serving on trains. It was only later in life that he began sharing stories of his past endeavors. He eventually joined the crew of a ship that repaired telephone cables, sailing around the world while managing the affairs of the Captain and ship’s rations. He stopped in places such as New York, seeing the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, and walked the empty beach shores of Hawaii. While docked he searched for pineapples for the Captain only to find out it was the off season and even recorded vocals on a record track; all opportunities that arose as a true testament to his outstanding effort, genuine nature, and kind heart. But there was only one story Larry recounted with admiration as significant – his life with the love of his life, Alice. Larry and Alice, both from Wedgeport, met and married in Toronto. Their marriage was filled with love and happiness as they became inseparable in their journey through life together. Larry and Alice had four children before returning with their family to Wedgeport to look after Larry’s parents. All that knew him recognized his quiet benevolence and insistence to put others before himself. Many will remember him from his time serving as part of the custodial staff at École Wedgeport, his caring personality facilitated many relationships that he cherished. Larry loved playing cards with friends and family, he was always ready for a game (or three) of crib – even when his children saved the best cards for their own hands. Larry was a social and vibrant person who never lost his zest for life, in his later years he still enjoyed seeking new experiences accompanied by his family. He could often be found outside; taking walks or resting on a patio, enjoying the sunshine and conversation with others. After 94 years of life full of adventure, joy, and love Larry could no longer wait to be reunited with his wife, Alice, who predeceased him in 2014 after 57 years of marriage. Larry will be missed by his four children: Debbie (Dennis) Doucette, Wedgeport; Gregory (Denise) LeBlanc, Tusket; Joan (Frank) Olsen, Yarmouth, and Donald (Angela) LeBlanc, Chegoggin; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren who will carry on his memory in their hearts. Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, August 26 at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. A funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 27 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Albéni d’Entremont officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers for the service, memorial donations can be made at any time to Tri-County VON services or the Gilles Boudreau Foundation.
