Obituary of Raymond Victor Barham
Raymond Victor (Ray) Barham, P.Eng.
September 20, 1950 to April 12, 2020
It’s with profound sadness and heavy hearts to announce the sudden passing of our beloved Ray Barham.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Susan, sister Doreen (Dave) Mason and sons Timothy (Kateryna), Jeremy (Leanne), Gregory (Martina) and Thomas Dahlgren. He is also survived by seven beautiful and much loved grandchildren – Mallory, Nicholas, Vanessa, Cameron, Cadence, Adelyn and Anneliese. Ray is also survived by extended family in Canada, the Netherlands, England and Austria.
Ray was born in Barking, England and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1956. He obtained his Canadian citizenship in 1972. Ray grew up in Ottawa where he attended Carleton University. For a brief time, Ray was employed by Bell Canada and then he moved west to Edmonton in 1980. Ray had a 29 year career with Nova Gas Transmission and TransCanada PipeLines in Calgary. Ray was also very active with the Alberta and Canadian Engineering Accreditation Boards and as a result was elected an Honorary Geoscientists Fellow in 2013.
Even after is retirement in 2009, Ray was very passionate about many of his hobbies that included golfing, reading his favourite authors, driving his Corvette in Arizona, photography, swearing at the news, cheering his beloved Calgary Flames and playing – and always learning – new songs on his guitar. Ray also loved cooking and preparing his many different tried and true recipes for his family and friends.
Ray and Susan moved from Chestermere, AB to Invermere, B.C., in 2018. This meant meeting new friends, new experiences, many rounds of golf and enjoying everything the mountains could offer. Ray’s life was full of fun, adventure and love until the final day. His smile, the twinkle in his eye and his quick wit will be missed by all.
At Ray’s request there will be no memorial service. Please share your experiences about Ray on the tribute page.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Raymond
