Service Details
Mr. Edgar Einar Bendtsen of Alida, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Saturday, April 25, 2020, at the age of 73.
Edgar was predeceased by his parents, Einar and Susannah (Harrison); parents-in-law, Reg Taylor and Edna (Verboom) Taylor; three sisters, Phyllis Isliefson, Audrey Armstrong, and Isabelle Shier; and three brothers-in-law, Bill Isliefson, Hugh Armstrong, and Alfred Desmarais.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Shirley (Taylor); their three sons, and their families: Todd and LaurieAnne (Petit) and their children, Shelby (Quinn Sidloski), Nicole (Cass Willerth and son Luca), and Ciera, Lloyd and Tara (Clark) and their children, Vanessa (Bailey Stigings), Jorja, and Cade, Steven and Lesa (Schiestel) and their children, Bradly and Hayley. Also left to mourn is his sister, Ellen Desmarais and brother-in-law, Art Shier as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Edgar was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was born on August 7, 1946 in Estevan, Saskatchewan. He attended school in Alida and Glen Ewen. After high school, he went to work with his uncle Bennie on the rural telephone lines as a lineman. He was then hired on by Sasktel as a cable splicer where he worked out of Weyburn and Regina. In 1966, his work brought him to Ogema, SK to change over the phone system to rotary dialing; this is where he met Shirley.
In 1967, he and Shirley were married and made their first home in Regina. In the spring of 1969, they returned to Alida to farm with his parents. In 1974, with three hungry sons to feed, Edgar went to work driving tank truck for Ed Gervais. He then worked at the Sask Wheat Pool for a year before going to work at Three Star Trucking for 38 years, the last 27 years were spent as dispatcher before retiring in 2013.
Edgar loved music and playing the guitar, reading books, and examining history books. His book collection is massive and covers every topic under the sun.
His biggest concern in the last few weeks is how COVID-19 would impact the future for his children and grandchildren. Most of all, Edgar loved his family and enjoyed watching every event and hobby they participated in. He would proudly say to Shirley “look, we created all of this.”
A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of Edgar can be directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave., Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK. S7K 1V9.
