Obituary for
Wilda Campbell
With deep sorrow, our family wishes to share that Wilda Campbell (nee Heath) passed away suddenly yet peacefully in the early morning hours of November 29, 2019. Wilda and her late husband, Dyrl, had three children: Mike, Cathy, and Jamie. She leaves behind to cherish sweet memories, her brother and sister-in-law Vern and Bev Heath; daughters, Cathy Allan and Jamie Campbell; and her three gorgeous grandchildren: Alisha Allan, Aaron Dyer with our beautiful Caroline Sinclair, and Liana Dyer.
She was a highly intelligent woman, a wonderful cook, voracious reader, talented knitter, and a lover of movies, trivia, butterflies, and old time country music. She was a selfless person, sweet, kind, and honest with a healthy side of humour and attitude. For our family, she was home and our softest place to fall. We are simply heartbroken.
Wilda was born in Banff, Alberta and grew up in Canmore along with her brother Vern. Her dad, Jack was a Coal Miner and her mom, Ruby was a Nurse. Sadly, Ruby passed away when Wilda was just 18 years old.
Wilda attended Mount Royal College in Calgary and subsequently attended Sir George Williams University in Montreal, where she studied social work. Returning to Alberta in 1965, she lived in Bowden where she and Dyrl started their family. From there, they moved to Edmonton before settling in Sherwood Park in 1972.
At the age of 50, Wilda pursued a long time dream and went back to school and obtained her Library and Information Technology diploma from Grant MacEwan Community College. This led to a fulfilling and pleasurable career of twelve years surrounded by her beloved books and assisting students and staff at Concordia University of Edmonton.
After her retirement, Wilda enjoyed spending time with family and friends and pursuing various interests. She enjoyed being a doting mother and grandmother when Cathy and Alisha or Liana would visit and when Aaron came to stay with her for 3 years while attending University. The same is true for when Jamie returned to stay with her earlier this year after spending many years in Calgary.
She enjoyed being included in our little outings, family trips and social gatherings. She loved us all as deeply as we loved her and we will remember the many good times we shared with her. We have peace that she knows how loved she was and how much she meant to us.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Strathcona County first responders, and the physicians and nurses who cared for her at the University of Alberta Hospital.
We wish to invite you to a viewing and an opportunity to visit with family and friends Friday, December 6 at 3:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Reception Centre, 11015 – 101 Street, Edmonton.
If you wish to honour Wilda in a special way, may we suggest a donation to PBS – Public Broadcasting Service, True North Aid – a charity supporting Canada’s Indigenous People, or the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Order Flowers
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Wilda
