LEBLANC, Victor “Vic” – It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye to Joseph Victor LeBlanc, age 78 of Saint Bernard, Digby County. Vic passed at home on Saturday, November 23, 2019, with his wife, Karen Shupe and brother, Mike by his side. Born in Belliveau Cove, Digby County, he was a son of Anna (Blinn) and the late Alphonse LeBlanc.
After attending Clare District High School and Ste. Anne’s College, Vic joined the army in 1961 and became a Signal Corps operator. Vic spent some time fishing and building steel buildings with his father before attending Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, New Brunswick, where he later served on the Board of Governors. He worked for the Department of Lands and Forests in Truro and Digby. Upon returning to Clare he worked as Supervisor of Forestry with Bowater Mersey Paper Company Ltd., Liverpool. Shortly after, Vic was promoted to District Superintendent of the Sissiboo Region. In 1995, he was honoured with the Graduate Forestry Technician Achievement Award.
He loved all aspects of nature, from the forest to his beloved Baie Sainte Marie. He enjoyed working on his Christmas tree lot, supporting Scouts Canada, hunting, and both salt and fresh water fishing. Vic was the first to scuba dive in Clare for clams, scallops and other seafood. He built a 34 foot fishing boat, the “Silent Sam II” with his father and cousin, Leonard, a labour of love which provided years of enjoyment for many.
Vic is survived by his wife, Karen Shupe and sweet dog, Poppy; mother, Anna; sons, Daniel (Cher), Andre (Nicole) and Leon (Janice). He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Boone (late Gary), Patricia Comeau (late Marcel); brothers, Jean (Debby) and Mike (Flora); mother-in-law, Betty Shupe; brother-in-law, Kerry Shupe. Vic has three grandchildren, Danielle, Gabrielle, and Sébastian. He is survived by niece and nephew, Laura LeBlanc and Marc LeBlanc; and close special niece, Kim Corkum.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Donna (Saulnier).
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, December 7th, in St. Bernard Fire Hall, from 2-4 p.m. A Graveside Service will be announced and held at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
