Obituary of The Right Reverend Clarence Mitchell
MITCHELL, The Right Reverend Clarence Malcolm, formerly of Port Dover, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home, Simcoe on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in his 95th year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce (2014). Cherished and loving father and father-in-law of David and Mimi Mitchell of Guelph and Catherine and Michael Longpré of Peterborough. Proud grandfather of six , Erin (Shane), Matthew (Amanda), Megan (Craig) Cassandra, Nathan (Stephanie) and Graham. Predeceased by his son Peter (1980) and his parents John and Martha Mitchell. Clarence was ordained in 1954 and was consecrated Suffragan Bishop of Niagara in 1980. He served in a number of Parishes, Holy Trinity, Welland, St. John’s, Port Dalhousie, St. Christopher’s, Burlington, Church of the Ascension, Hamilton, and St. George’s, Guelph. Clarence was an avid reader, a devoted gardener and had a great love for the arts. He will be remembered for his wonderful speaking and singing voice, his honourable, quiet, gentle way and his great sense of humour. He will be remembered fondly by all the people whose lives he touched in many ways.
Friends are invited to meet with the family for visitation to share their memories of Clarence on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 7 pm to 9 pm at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME, 102 First Ave., Port Dover (519) 583-1530. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church (Market & St. George St.) Port Dover, Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 11 am. The Right Reverend Susan Bell and The Reverend Tony Bouwmeester officiating. For those wishing donations to NHNH – Hospice Room or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.
