Obituary for
Sophie Sereda
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our Mom, Baba and Great-Grandma, Sophie Sereda, on December 12, 2019 at the age of 90 years. She was surrounded by love, with her devoted daughter, Gloria and Tim by her side as she took her final breath.
Sophie is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Tim); and son, Glenn (Christine); grandchildren Christopher, Nicolas, Steve and Sam; great-grandchild Carter; her brothers, Laurie and Ed; cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In heaven she is now reunited with her loving husband, Pat; her mother, Annie; her step-father, Steve; her father, Nykyfor; her brothers, Nick and Harry; and her sister, Anne.
We wish to thank the staff from the Good Samaritan, Stony Plain for their kindness, patience and loving care of Sophie. She was always in gentle and caring hands. We also want to thank Dr. Datar who helped us through this most difficult time with his guidance and compassion.
We are eternally grateful to all our family and friends who have reached out to us during this difficult time.
Sophie was born to Annie and Nykyfor Krasowski on July 1, 1929 in Edmonton, Alberta.
She was married to Pat Sereda on July 24, 1954. Sophie and her husband, Pat had a beautiful marriage. She often spoke of all the fun they had together golfing, at the horse races, and especially their fishing trips in Jasper!
In March 1960 a son was born, Glenn and in June 1962 a daughter, Gloria. Their family was complete.
Sophie was a devoted and loving wife and mother of two children. Sophie’s love for her family was apparent in everything she did. Growing up she made every occasion, big or small a special one. She was proud of her children and made many sacrifices along the way to help her children succeed.
Her loving husband, Pat passed away in November 1989, after 35 years of marriage. She vowed that no one could ever take his place, and so she remained a widow.
She was very proud to have worked as a teller in numerous banks, as well as she worked in the business office at the Grandview Extended Care Center until she retired in 1994.
She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren (Christopher, Nicolas, Steve and Sam) and enjoyed watching them grow up. She did lots of babysitting, went to school events, watched them play soccer and basketball, went to Ukrainian dance performances, and cheered them on in all they did, encouraged them to excel and had an abundance of love for them all.
A great-grandson, Carter was born on April 1, 2017 and he brought a new sparkle into her life!
Sophie suffered a life changing stroke in October 2017. Her daughter, Gloria, Tim and family continued to love, care and bring her joy.
On December 12, 2019 the Lord called her home.
Sophie will always be remembered by her wonderful personality and stories, her beautiful smile and her generous and loving ways.
We will love you forever.
You will always be in our hearts until to meet again, rest in peace, Sophie.
A formal service will not be held at this time, however please continue to remember Sophie’s Life and cherish her in your heart.
