Ruth Beatrice Grattan 19522019

Ruth Beatrice Grattan
1952-2019
With broken hearts the family announces the unexpected
passing of their dear sister, Ruth Beatrice Grattan, Fredericton, NB,
on December 8, 2019 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in
White Rapids, NB, on January 11, 1952, she was the daughter of the
late William and Dorothy (Ryan) Grattan.
Ruth retired from the Provincial Archives, PNB, where she was
employed as an archivist. She graduated from UNB (BA), Ryerson
College, Toronto and completed an assignment in archival study and
work in Bordeaux, France.
Ruth is survived by her sisters, Anne Vickers (Wilson) and
Mary Taylor, both of Fredericton, and Ida Daigle (Leemond) of
Richibucto; brothers, Eugene of Moncton, Ronald (Bernice) of
Blackville, Donald (Anna Mary) of Pembroke, ON, and Douglas of White
Rapids. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sisters, Helen
Sturgeon (Myles) and Lois Grattan; brothers, Robert (Kaye), Vincent,
Gerald (Lourdes), and Roy (in infancy). She is also survived by many
nieces, nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth
Grattan.
Ruth was a free-spirited and fiercely independent individual.
Never one to seek recognition or luxury she had the ability to enjoy
the many things we often take for granted such as our beautiful city,
province, the Miramichi and St. John Rivers, nature’s beauty
no matter what the season, her sense of freedom, and the love of her
siblings. She loved having her felines around to spoil and be
entertained by. As her part to protect the environment and lower her
carbon footprint she chose never to own or drive a vehicle; as well,
she embraced recycling long before it became standard
practice.
There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be
at St. Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church in Renous, NB, on
Saturday December 14, 2019 at 11:00 am with Fr. Daniel Bastarache
officiating. Burial will take place in St. Bridget’s Roman
Catholic Church Cemetery in the spring.
For those who wish, donations to your local food bank, SPCA,
or a charity of the donor’s choice would be greatly
appreciated.
