A little bit about Ofelia Apalit Damaso:
Originally born in Lucban, Quezon Province in the Philippines, Ofelia grew up in Baclaran, Paranaque City with her mother Julia and siblings Roger, Minverva (Navie), and Elias Jr. (Jun). Her youngest sister, Violeta, passed away while she was an infant.
She met her loving husband, Renato Damaso (Rene), when he moved in next door. He would often serenade her with his guitar and songs from her favourite singer Eddie Peregrina. Her favourite song of his has always been I Do Love You.
Ofelia moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1975 where she worked at Western Glove Works until she retired in 2007.
She married Rene on November 27, 1976, at St. Edwards Parish. They welcomed their first child, Edward, on August 26, 1977, followed by their daughter Christie on August 13, 1980.
Ofelia was a strong, confident, and loving person. She was very honest and straightforward, and always did everything with the best intentions. She cared deeply for others and was cared for in return, was extremely generous and wouldn’t hesitate to help those who needed it.
She loved cooking her specialty dishes for her family such as lecheflan tarts, hopia, siopao, wonton and mami soups. She enjoyed watching classic movies on the weekends, a love which she passed on to her daughter at a young age along with her love for chocolate. She also enjoyed watching filipino movies and channels which connected her back to her roots and heritage.
She was very proud of her husband’s talent in singing. She would often attend parties where her husband was performing and watch proudly while he serenaded the crowd with his beautiful voice. They would dance the night away together doing the cha-cha or a slow dance in each other’s arms.
She had a huge love for her family and was so proud to be a wife to Rene, a mother to Edward and Christie, and a lola to Conlan and Rhys.
Her favourite colour was red, she collected good luck charms from all cultures, and loved anything with polka dots or circles as it represented good fortune. New Year’s Eve was her favourite holiday.
Ofelia touched many with her generosity and passion for life.
Lamay will be on Friday, December 20 from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 21 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church, 836 Arlington Street.
