Mike Fidek 2019

Mike’s Obituary
Mike Fidek, beloved husband of Pauline Fidek, passed away at the Invermay Health Centre on December 9, 2019, at the age of 93.
Mike was born on October 4, 1926, to Ivan and Anastasia (Chodak) Fidek. The second child of seven, he grew up on the family farm, NE of Invermay, SK. He received his education at the Lone Spruce School. As a young man, Mike worked on the family farm with his dad and his brothers, Walter and Bill.
On October 18, 1955, Mike married Pauline Hadubiak of Amsterdam, SK. They settled on the John Connelly homestead 8 miles NE of Invermay, where they made their first home and Mike continued to farm. Mike and Pauline were blessed with ten children: Cecilia, Methodius, Patrick, Timothy, Anthony, Teresa, Darcy, Dale, Myles and Jamie.
As the boys got older, they helped Mike on the farm and eventually they joined him and together, continued to expand the operation. Mike was actively involved in the farming operation until about 2006 and continued to be a major presence until his passing.
Mike was actively involved in the Sts Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, the parish cemetery, the local school board, and ongoing community events. One of his greatest accomplishments was the building of the bell tower and large cross that stand outside the church. Reading was one of Mike’s favourite pastimes, especially the Western Producer, which he read from front to back.
Mike was very innovative and was always willing to try new things such as grain drying and aeration – all to make a better life for his family. He invested in a well drilling rig and proceeded to drill many water wells in the surrounding communities. Besides farming and well drilling, he spent much time working with his brothers, Walter and Bill, clearing bush and building roads. The extra income allowed him to expand his farming operation.
In 1969, Mike and Pauline purchased more land just 2 1/2 miles East of Invermay and moved the family homestead to this location, where it remains to this day.
Mike leaves behind an impressive legacy. He was a loving husband, an awesome dad, a grandfather, gedo, great grandpa, a friend, and a humble but dedicated, community man. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Ivan and Anastasia; an infant son, Patrick; daughter, Teresa and her husband, Rodney Hrynchyshyn; sisters, Mary Macala and Antonia Barteski; and brothers, Walter, Joseph, and Bill Fidek.
Left to mourn is his loving wife of 64 years, Pauline; daughter, Cecilia (Rod) Merryweather of Calgary AB; sons: Methodius, Tim (Joanne), Darcy (Laurie), Dale (Desa), Myles and Jamie of Invermay, SK and Anthony (Glenda) of Grand Coulee SK; daughter-in-law, Sandra of Invermay, SK; grandchildren: Shawn (Stacey), Rory, Ashly, Teagan (Jonathan), Landen (Lynsee), Karlee, Patrick, Ivan, Matthew, Faith, Brittney, Brendon, Michael, Marissa, Zachary, Julian, Kendall, Tyson, Jade, Trinity, Remy, Joshua (Samantha), Jonathan, and Nathan; step-grandchildren: Krystal (Jeff), Dustin, and Brandon; great-grandchildren: Hudson, Logan, Aidan, and Connor; step great-grandchildren: Rocky-Bear, Sunny-Rae, and Arlo; and his sister, Pauline Chicoine of Toronto, ON; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
