Obituary of Michelle Davies
Michelle Davies – September 28th, 1968 – December 5th, 2019
With heavy hearts, the family is saddened to announce the passing of Michelle on December 5th, 2019. Michelle was born to Rosemary and Allan Davies on September 28th, 1968 at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, Sk.
Michelle is survived by: her parents; her much loved son, Nicholas Trotchie; and her “adopted” son, Thomas McDuff; her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Wendel Elliott and their sons, Allan and Darren, as well as Darren’s daughter, Brooklynn; her sister and brother-in-law, Wendy and Matt Spoonheim and their daughters, Jade and Jasmine; her brother, Dennis Davies and his son, Damon, as well as our “adopted” brother, Jimmy Reber; her sister, Terri McMillan and partner Jeffrey De Baerdemaeker, as well as her sons, Hunter and Pierce; her dearest friends, Karen, Glenn and Brandy Fagnan; her special friend, Muhammad Fahd and her Fort McMurray “Family;” and numerous other relatives and friends.
Michelle was predeceased by: her niece, Skyla Spoonheim; and close friend, Wendy Lyons.
Michelle started out as an absolutely adorable baby, then toddler, and quickly turned into an even cuter sometimes moody middle child that could turn a milk spilling event into a total meltdown if looked at the wrong way. In her teenage years she started becoming the quirky, caring woman you may have known and obviously was well loved by those childhood friends, based on the outpouring of love and support they are showing now. She did not get really close to a lot of people, but if you were one of the ones lucky enough to be brought in to her inner circle you’d know how fiercely loyal she was, or her quiet way of helping out anyone in need, never wanting any recognition for it. You’d also know that she was the perfect mix of AC/DC fan and Harry Potter/Star Wars nerd, even having her own Harry Potter wand.
She was lovingly called “Auntie Social” by her nieces and nephews because of her need for solitude, not wanting to be in the midst of a large gathering, preferring to spend quiet time with her son, and maybe a few family members and friends up at Candle Lake or on a Las Vegas trip. These trips happened less frequently in the last few years, as she worked tirelessly on her business, Michelle’s Your Independent Grocer. We, as a family, just recently met a number of her co-workers, employees, and community members, many of whom offered us support and some shared their particular stories of how Michelle had helped and supported them. She was there through the fires of Fort McMurray, stubbornly staying around to hand out water and supplies to those that were trying to get the fires under control, long after many had fled the city.
Her business created a beautiful picnic table that won first prize through a contest at Loblaws that meant a trip to Ottawa for her and a few of her employees, but in her Michelle way, she was really hoping they would win second prize, because that would have meant a party at her store where everyone could enjoy the win. She supported many charities as a business owner, but she started out much earlier, sending money to help children in impoverished countries, even when she didn’t have much money to put food on her own table.
She accomplished so much in her life, but the only thing she ever was really boastful about were the accomplishments of the people she cared about. Her son was number one in her life and she was working towards making a life that would allow her to be able to be free and spend more time with him. People always say that the ones who pass away were the best this and the most loving that. Michelle was the most real and passionate at everything she did. She could be the most loving sister and friend, but she would also tell you to back off when she had enough and needed her space. She wasn’t the proper house wife mom having cookies and a roast in the oven when Nicholas came home from school; but she was a hard-working mom who knew enough to order a pizza so she could spend that extra time with him rather than slaving away in the kitchen. She welcomed his friends like they were her own children, treated his dog, Rex, like a much loved grandchild, and she supported and cared for Nicholas exactly the way that was needed, because he’s taken on all of her amazing traits. For a small woman she is going to leave a massive hole in the hearts of all that knew her well.
Please join us in celebrating her life Saturday, December 14th at 1:00PM in the Prairie Room at the Lloydminster Agricultural Exhibition Association, 5521 – 49th Ave, Lloydminster. Lunch will be served in the Prairie Room after the celebration of life. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of cards and flowers, donations in memory of Michelle may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
