Margaret Hellen Gray
September 24, 1942 – November 26, 2019
Maggie Gray passed away peacefully on the evening of Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the age of 77 years. She is lovingly remembered by her best friend, Neola Dann (Calgary), Eileen Statyn (Calgary); brother, Ken Gray (Ontario); Sandra and Frank Dart (Calgary) and Eva and Sheldon Albrecht (Calgary). Maggie was born in Toronto, ON and loved the lake district. She completed both a teaching degree and an RN degree in Waterloo, ON. With her love of the mountains leading her, Maggie moved out west and began nursing in BC then on to Calgary where she chose to settle. Maggie was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in her 20s but it never dampened her love for life nor her greatest passion of painting with watercolors. She was a prominent and beloved member of the distinguished Calgary Sketch Club for over 30 years. Her beautiful paintings of nature in and around Calgary and elsewhere were perennial top sellers at CSC exhibitions. Some of her fondest memories were with club members on painting excursions. She sold a final painting entitled “Kananaskis High” just three days before she passed. Maggie will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She was quick-witted, intelligent and generous. A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.
