Lynda Mahree Ritchie was born November 17, 1948 to Mervin and Mary Guthrie in Edmonton, Alberta. She was raised in Cromer, Manitoba, the eldest of five daughters. Lynda met the love of her life, Ron Ritchie, at the United Church youth group when she was 12 years old. They held hands on the way to the year-end party, and from that point on they had eyes only for one other. They married September 17, 1966, and raised three children, Sherri, Scott, and Christal, in Virden, Manitoba.
Lynda and Ron were active in the community. They enjoyed golfing, curling, as well as dinner parties and travelling with their lifelong friends. She enjoyed a long career at the Royal Bank in Virden. She was very fond of her clients and truly enjoyed helping people, especially her elderly clients. Lynda was also a very busy mother and wife. The family moved from Virden to the Ritchie family farm in 1977. Here, as well as working full-time, Lynda raised 3 children, kept the house, yard and garden, and supported Ron in the farm work – with meals in the field or driving the grain truck. She spent many hours on the highway, driving her children to hockey practices, figure skating, ringette, and 4H meetings. She supported her family tirelessly, and she did so with grace and love.
Lynda had a passion for gardening, embroidery, and all things beautiful. She spent many peaceful hours designing and tending her garden, and she transformed their home into a beautiful oasis. She enjoyed the peace and solitude of her yard, as well as many hours relaxing with her hardanger needlepoint. She enjoyed travel, taking many trips with her husband and their friends to Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, and also a journey through Thailand with her daughter Sherri. She had many adventurous travels with her sisters and mother including a cruise through the Caribbean and a trip to Hawaii. She and her sisters were extremely close, and they remained best friends throughout their lives.
Lynda’s grandchildren, Carson, Chloe, Kadance, Chad, and Zoe, were the light of her life. She delighted in spending hours with them talking, reading stories, dancing, or doing makeup. Lynda will be remembered for her extraordinary capacity for love, caring, and kindness. She was adored by all who met her and saw the good in everyone and everything. Her smile brightened every room she entered, and she made all who knew her feel special. She made the world a more beautiful place for all of us.
Lynda will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her husband of 53 years, Ron, her children Sherri (Morgan), Scott (Emilie), and Christal, her sisters Charlene (Lloyd) Schnick, and Brenda (Jody) Johnson, and her mother Mary Guthrie. Her grandchildren will always think of Grandma with great love and joy. She was predeceased by her mother-in-law Eleanor Ritchie, her father-in-law William Ritchie, her sister-in-law Sandra Ritchie, as well as her beloved father, Mervin Guthrie, and dear sisters Leone and Cheryl Guthrie.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Weber’s Mount Pleasant Chapel, Camrose, Alberta.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Lynda Mahree Ritchie 2019..
