Lori Ann Hughes
1966-2019
Lori Ann
Hughes – 53, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday,
December 14, 2019, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre,
Truro. Born in London, Ontario, she was the oldest of five
children raised by Linda Metlin-Hughes, Bible Hill and the late
Fontaine Hughes.
She was
adored by her four younger siblings and was a favorite aunt to their
children. Lori is survived by her loving mom, Linda Metlin-Hughes
(Keith Rushton), Bible Hill; sister, Patricia Hughes-Lewis (Travis
Black) and niece, Atlanta Black, North River; brother, Jamie Metlin
(Leslie Hickey), niece, Kailyn Metlin and nephew, Cameron
Durling, Moncton; sister, Kimberly Metlin (Craig Robertson), niece,
Erica Robertson and nephew, Adam Robertson, Hilden; brother, Eric
Hughes (Morgan Beaver) and three month old niece, Peyton Hughes,
Truro; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers who will
also lament her loss and miss her crocheted dishcloths, good humour
and positive outlook on life. She was predeceased by her father,
Fontaine Hughes (2013); maternal grandparents, Rennie and Beatrice
Metlin (Hilden); paternal grandparents, James Hughes (New Ross) and
Bernice (Swinamer) Hughes (Gold River).
As a child,
Lori overcame a serious illness at the age of 12. Despite resulting
mobility challenges, after graduating from Cobequid Educational Centre
and Success Business College, she continued to work until recently.
Lori was a dispatcher for several Truro taxi companies since her high
school years, most recently working with friends at G&D Taxi.
Lori was a “Daddy’s Girl” and she especially enjoyed many
years working alongside her father until his retirement.
Lori’s
hobbies included genealogy research, crochet, and curling up (with
furry friends) to watch a good movie; she was an avid reader and a
whiz at trivia games. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her
close family and young nieces and nephews.
A special
thank you to family physician, Dr. Bruce Phillips for his care over
the years and a thank you to Dr. Cortney Smith and the wonderful
nurses during her short stay in the Palliative Care Unit at Colchester
