SANKEY- Lily June (Greig)
An amazing journey has come to an end. Lily was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and passed away on December 23, 2019.
After graduation she headed west, finally settling in Trail, BC in 1939 where she worked at CM &S and while carpooling to work met her future husband Charles Sankey. They were married in November, 1941.
Lily is survived by two sisters; her children Claire Goodson, Eileen (Rob) Thorburn, Trish Barber, Greg (Colleen) Sankey and Kathy (Don) Ham, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.
She is predeceased by Charles Sankey, son in law Ben Goodson, grandson Kevin Barber and five siblings.
Lily was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, PTA and Knox United Church. Other activities included bowling, curling, skiing, square dancing, golfing and the occasional dip in the lake. Spare time was occupied with baking, sewing, knitting, quilting, leather work and reading to name a few. Extensive travelling was enjoyed to places all around the world.
The house that they rebuilt in Warfield was her primary residence for over 65 years. The summer months were spent at Christina Lake since the early 50’s. Many rousing games of Canasta were enjoyed by all.
At the age of 96 she became a permanent resident of the Columbia View Lodge.
Her wit and gentle personality was shared with all. With a simple shrug of the shoulders she rolled another Yahtzee, thus the name “Yahtzee Queen”. The family wishes to thank the staff of Columbia View with special note to the Recreation Dept. for their five years of devoted care.
As an expression of sympathy donations in Lily’s name may be to KBRH Health Foundation (Columbia View Lodge – Recreation Dept.)
A Celebration of Life will be planned in the spring of 2020. She will be missed.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family’s online register
