Lillian’s Obituary
Lillian “May” (Rogers) Morris was born February 2, 1930 on Paul’s Island, Bonavista Bay. There she met her husband Harold, who was visiting his sister, a teacher on the Islands. They were married on Fair Island July 16, 1952. From there they moved to Catalina where the first two boys were born, Colin and Clifford. After five years, a move across the peninsula to Middle Amherest Cove three years and to Bonavista one year, where the third boy greeted the family, Carman. In 1961, during the summer of the great fire the family moved to Trinity and settled. The final three boys were born at Brookfield to complete the family(team). Rance , Allan and Mervin.
May was heavily involved in the nurturing of her boys, making sure they were fed, clothed and educated. She also had time to be involved in the church activities, serving on various committees and singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Trinity A.C.W. Not only did she have her family to care for, a few new teachers to the school came to the house to stay. May took care of them as her own.
May was an active social butterfly. She loved her card games, bingo and socials of all sorts. She had her opinions and most of you have heard her share them.
In May’s recent years, after her stroke, she slowed somewhat but was always wanting to know the events that were taking place. She shared in some of these when she was a resident at Oram’s Manor, Gambo. Thanks to Aunt Phyllis and Jill who made sure she got there and back.
May also showed a lot of courage after Harold passed. She learned to drive and got her first licence at age 55. She continued to raise her youngest son on her own. She learned to be independent. She travelled to visit her sons in Alberta, Florida, Ontario, St. John’s and Gander numerous times.
May was predeceased by her husband Harold; Parents Stewart and Caroline Rogers; sister Josephine Lane and brother Eli.
May leaves to mourn six sons Colin(Kathy) of Gander, Clifford(Wanda) of Boyle, AB., Carman(Clare) of Welland, ON., Allan(Jenny) and Rance of Lethbridge, AB., Mervin(Charlene) of St. John’s; her sister Phyllis Cutler of Centreville; sister-in-law Florence Rogers of Toronto; brother-in-law Charles(Virginia)Morris of Grand Falls-Winsor; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
