After a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Gene passed away peacefully with his wife Jeannie and daughter Janet at his bed side, on November 25, 2019 in David Lloyd Jones Home in Kelowna.
Gene was born January 12, 1936 in Minburn Alberta. He was a member of the RCAF from 1956 until 1967. While he lived in many places in his life including Rutland as a young teenager, he loved to travel! He had driven across Canada almost 20 times over the years as he took his young family to visit grandparents and other relatives in Western Canada during the summers he had off from teaching and being Vice Principal at Gander College, NL as well as his time with the RCAF.
Gene had always loved his family and when he retired, he dedicated his spare time to gathering family history and put together 4 books for family keepsakes. They were: Myrtle’s Garden (about his mother), Art Being Art (his father), Daughter’s of Cold Spring Farm (his Aunts) and Sam Larcombe Country (his Great Grandfather who was Wheat King of The World in 1917).
When Parkinsons’ disease started to slow him down physically, it also affected his ability to communicate – finding words – even phone calls became difficult. This was very sad for Gene as he loved keeping in touch with his loved ones, especially after he could no longer travel.
Gene was known as an honourable, kind, gentle, generous and loving man.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jeannie, son Randy (Pearl), daughter Janet (Michael), Stepson Jesse (Lynsay), Stepdaughter Shawna (Tom), as well as grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Also missing him will be his brother Dennis (Dianne),his nieces and nephews, his DeCruyenaere in-laws through Jeannie, his cousin Barbara Dyrgas and his friend from Rutland days: Tom McKenzie… He was pre-deseased by his parents Art and Myrtle and sister Reta.
