Wendy passed away with her loving family and her partner Claude Paquette by her side.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother Jean Zukowsky, her dedicated sons Daniel and Christopher, sisters Gladys (Alex Hula), Grace (Warren Predy) and all her numerous and much loved nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband and father of her sons Danny Komick (1963-2006), sister Dianne Zuber (1952-2011) and her father Peter Zuber (1919-1995).
Wendy’s love of hockey after many years as a hockey mom netted many long term friendships for her, Daniel and Chris. Her dedication and love of the Oilers never wavered, as she indicated in her own words, “even when they suck!”
Her most recent employment with Alberta Health Services as support staff also provided her with many long formed friendships, in addition to numerous long term friendships from her past. These dear friendships were obvious with everyones visits these past few months, which Wendy thrived on. For this we thank each and every one of you.
Wendy’s health struggles began early in life in her late 30’s with kidney failure but she was given a new lease on life with a well matched kidney transplant in 2000.
In 2018 what was thought of as a successful surgery happened with her first cancer diagnosis. The unexpected reoccurrence in May 2019 unfortunately resulted in her succumbing to her final battle with cancer on December 1st.
On behalf of Wendy’s entire family we want to sincerely thank the Grey Nuns Palliative Care nursing staff and Doctor’s for their compassion and ongoing care in making Wendy’s time and last days as comfortable as possible.
In lieu of flowers as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Wendy’s name to the Cross Cancer Institute www.cancer.ca and/or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, www.kidney.ca
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date. Notification will be posted on this site and in the paper.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Komick Wendy Olga December 1 2019..
