Joe Whitaker
The Whitaker family are sad to announce the passing of their dear brother Joe (Joseph) Whitaker of Norland On. Joe passed away in the comfort of the staff at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay On, on Saturday morning November 30th, 2019 from the complications of diabetes. Joe had been battling the affects of his disease for a number of years which led to his kidney failure, the need for dialysis which eventually culminated in his heart giving out. Joe was pre-deceased by his loving daughter Barbara formerly of Kapuskasing On, his parents George and Catherine (Katie) Whitaker formerly of Reaboro and his siblings Monica, Ray and Mike Whitaker. Joe is survived by his loving daughter Tara Whitaker, his granddaughters Krissy, Amanda and Alyssa Whitaker and his many great grandchildren. Joe is survived by his siblings and extended family James and Sonya Whitaker, Lindsay, Karen (McNevan) Whitaker, Mississauga, Peter and Manon Whitaker, Ottawa, Patti (Repath) Whitaker, Mississauga, Gale (Nichols) Whitaker, Victoria, Judy (McDonald) Whitaker, Lindsay and Joe’s many nieces and nephews. Joe is fondly remembered by his many friends and his great neighbours who looked in on him and assisted him over the years. His life’s work and pleasure was being there for his family and friends and assisting them when required or requested. Joe’s passion was his love for cars both those that would run and more so working on those that needed fixing up. In the past two years he had the amazing opportunity to teach his daughter how to rebuild the engine in the 1967 Dodge Charger he rescued in one of his many trips the to the USA where he made many long time dear friends over the years. Joe was extremely happy to teach is daughter Barb the skills he had learned in a lifetime of experience starting from working with his dad in the garage at Reaboro and going on to achieve his automotive high school certificate from Adam Scott high school in Peterborough. Joe was an avid demolition derby enthusiast and mechanic inspector and loved organizing the many snowmobiling trips each winter with his buddies. He loved to celebrate with his neighbours, friends and family each summer as long as he was able with his legendary pig roasts and corn roast. The Whitaker family will be organizing a celebration of life for their brother Joe in the New Year and will send out a notice to Joe’s friends at that time. The Whitaker family would like to thank all the doctors, nursing staff and assistance at both the Lindsay Ross Memorial hospital and the Peterborough hospital that assisted and looked after our brother Joe over these past years as well as those involved with the many transportation trips to and from the hospital visits. We are very fortunate to have the great Public Healthcare system we have here in Canada! In keeping with Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place. If desired, memorial donations to the Ross Memorial Hospital-Dialysis Unit would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged through the Stoddart Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 24 Mill Street, Lindsay, Ontario K9V 2L1 (705-324-3205).
