Obituary
It is with heavy hearts our family announces the passing of Joseph Carr in Calgary on November 27, 2019 at the age of 81 years.
Joseph was born in Turner Valley, Alberta in a family farmhouse that was set up for deliveries around 4 a.m. He was the eldest of three siblings and the apple of his Grandad Walter Price’s eye. He moved around a lot as a young child, as his Dad was working in the oil field in Alberta, until his family finally settled on their own farm in Black Diamond, where he took over running the farm by the age of twelve.
By the age of nineteen he began his career in construction. First started working and learning his lifelong career and trade with Tom Brown Construction. He is responsible for constructing many buildings in and around Calgary, including the Brentwood C-train station, the former Red Robin location in Kensington, and many schools within Calgary and the surrounding areas. In the late 60’s he became Superintendent and remained as so until he semi-retired at age 62. Joe was always a very hard worker; still doing projects around his home right up until very recently.
He spent his next years taking his grandchildren on many great vacations as well as sharing stories of his family and friends. Joe relished life’s simple pleasures. Enjoying a good Chinese Smorgasbord, especially sweet ‘n’ sour chicken & the shrimp; watching the new calves in the Spring; and mostly time spent with his great grandchildren, which never failed to bring a smile to his face! Joe also enjoyed listening to his favorite music and a good laugh!
On November 27th, Joseph passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Joseph is survived by his two daughters, Patricia and Jo-Ann; his beloved grandson Danny; and his dearly beloved great grandchildren, Sara and Justin. He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Angus (Myrna) and Ron (Terry); along with many greatly loved cousins, especially Sherry; many nieces, especially Debbie; and many nephews and good friends. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Art Carr; his son Robbie; his dearly beloved sister Dolly and her husband Charlie Mack; and his cherished and beloved Aunt Eva and Uncle Herb McEathron.
The song has ended, but the melody still lingers on. He is sorely missed!
As per Joseph’s wishes, no services will be held, and his ashes will be spread in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to the Diabetes Foundation (www.diabetes.ca/).
