Died Kingston, Ontario
Suddenly at home on Friday December 13th, with his wife and soulmate Gail (nee Lynch) at his side. John was a well-known Kingston musician and a former Corrections Instructor at Joyceville Institution.
He was predeceased by a loving son Darrell. He leaves behind to mourn his daughter Gayle Dixon, her husband Dennis and their sons Greg and Brad (Giovanna (Jo)); son Larry, his wife Barb and their sons Jamie (Rachel), David (Kayla) and Danny (Brad); son Michael, his wife Jo Ann and their daughters Amanda Vandehaar (Brad) and Michelle Pilon (Ben); daughter Bonnie Armstrong her husband Jay and her children Robbie Cormier (Buffy) and Melissa Rettie (Steve); Darrell’s wife Lori Purdon and granddaughters Holly Gentemann (Bernd) and Ashley Purdon. He is also survived by 13 beautiful great-grandchildren. John was also predeceased by the mother of his children Ruby Purdon (Morey). Friends will be received at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 10 -10:45 am, followed by a service celebrating John’s life at 11:00 am in the chapel. A reception will be held immediately following the service in the reception center at James Reid Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, donations in John’s memory may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation of Canada or to the charity of your choice.
