Obituary
John A. KING
November 3, 1932 – December 27, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Archibald King, at the age of eighty-seven, on December 27, 2019. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side. John is survived by his daughter Colleen King (John Turanich), son Darren (Brenda) King; grandchildren Daniel Sleeva, Christa (Chris) Seckinger, Kevin King and Carly King; great grandchildren Jordan Erlends, Rebecca and Joshua Seckinger; brothers Gordon (Mildred) King, Wayne (Marj) King; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents Archibald and Vera King; brother Russell and his wife Maxine King; nephew Doug King and niece Laurine King. John was born on his family’s farm near Dundurn, Saskatchewan. He attended Gilead, a one room country school, and continued his education at the Hanley high school. Once John had completed school, he moved to northern Alberta and worked in construction. After a short period of time, he returned to Saskatchewan and started his career as a civilian firefighter at Canadian Forces Base Dundurn. John retired from CFB Dundurn after thirty-two years of service. Shortly after John’s retirement, he decided to continue working in a new field and began a part-time position at the Union Center. Following his time at the Union Center, John spent several years travelling the prairies recovering antique tractors for resale. Throughout John’s life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and curling. He also loved both simulcast and live horse racing. He spent many years attending rodeos in Western Canada and truly appreciated sharing these experiences with his children and grandchildren. John treasured his time socializing with friends and family, going to card tournaments, and attending dances. John made friends easily and he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. The family would like to thank the staff at Ilarion Assisted Living for their great care. We would also like to thank the staff at Royal University Hospital 5300 Ward and Saskatoon City Hospital 3300 Ward for their exceptional care and understanding. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice. The Celebration of John’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Acadia McKague’s Funeral Centre (915 Acadia Drive, Saskatoon). Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
