John “Glen” Mahar
1952-2019
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Glen
Mahar of Stratford on Wednesday, December 18th following a hard fought
battle with cancer. He was the son of Eva and Pat Mahar of
Charlottetown.
Glen was our go-to- guy. If we needed anything he was there
for us. His passion for his children and family was immeasurable. He
loved Saturday Night Hoe-Down, cooking (Turkey Dinner), and his family
would say it was his “best ever” and he would give that
“Fred Flintstone grin”.
Glen was a very amazing man who handled this cancer journey
with Grace. The quickness with which this happened was very hard to
understand, but he handled it with great strength. He made it easier
for Barb, his children and our families.
We would sincerely like to thank the following for their care
and compassion with Glen over the past few months. Dr. Peacock,
Sheila, Unit 1 of the QEH, Dr. Head (Oncology), Dr. LeCours, Dr.
Baker, Dr. Rachel, Blanche and all of the wonderful nurses,
maintenance staff, Chef Shawn at the Palliative Care Centre. Special
thanks to Rev. Mark Buell for all of his chats, prayers and laughter
with Glen and family. Sincere gratitude to family , friends from Leons
and golfing buddies for their many visits and treats (hot caramel
sundaes). Glen was a very dedicated friend and
co-worker.
Glen will be dearly missed by his wife and best friend Barb (
Ballem), his children Kory (Steph), Adam (Mindy) and Katie (Marc)
Knierzinger. His precious grandchildren, Grampie to Denver Mamye,
Gappy to Charley Mae and Ellie Rose Knierzinger, and Sophia Mahar;
brothers, David (Marni) and Mike (Roxanne); brother-in-law Kenny
(Diane) Gauthier ; his loving second family The Ballem Bunch; Judy
(Howard), Ken (Marilyn), Deb, Libba, Connie (Paul) and numerous
special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Terry
and sister, Patricia “Tush”, in-laws Art Ballem, Joan Bruce,
Doug and Jeff Mobbs.
As per Glen’s wishes there
will be no visitation or funeral with a private family celebration at
a later date at his happy place “The Dream Catcher”. If so
desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Provincial
Palliative Care Centre or the PEI Humane Society. Arrangements
entrusted to the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home.

Cancer took Glen from us but it will not take the love and
memories we will have forever. Please raise a glass and toast Glen for
a job well done.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of John Glen Mahar 19522019..
