Memorial Donation
On Friday, December 27th, 2019 our hearts were filled with sadness and our lives forever changed as our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Roy Sheaves passed away peacefully at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years.
A loving and devoted husband, Roy shared 53 wonderful years of marriage with his wife Edna Sheaves (nee Taylor) and together they raised two sons Robert (Suzette) Sheaves of Middleton, NS, Derek (Jackie) Sheaves of Regina, Saskatchewan. Roy was a proud poppy, his memories and legacy of love will remain strong and true in the hearts of his grandchildren Robin and James. Roy will also be sadly missed by his brother Alvin (Sharon) Sheaves, brothers and sisters-in-law; Amos White, Rayleen Sheaves, Phyllis (Ron) Parsons, William Jr (Ruth) Taylor, Betty Wilkinson and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and many life long friends. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Clement and Jane (nee Vouden) Sheaves, siblings; Shirley (Clyde) Hann, Eileen White, Ronald Sheaves, father and mother-in-law; William and Annie Taylor, sister-in-law; Eileen (Harold) Lomond, brothers-in-law; Gordon Taylor and Richard Wilkinson.
Roy enjoyed an extensive career with the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques as an operator and retired in 2001 after 31 years of dedicated service. He was a very active member of his community and served in such organizations as the Lions Club, Fire Department, Scouts Canada Leader, Orange Lodge, The Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre Foundation and The Men’s Choral group, some of these he had volunteered for over 50 years. He was proud of his community and gave countless hours of his time giving back to his home town that he was so proud to be a part of. He will be sadly missed by his community and the lives of those he touched with his caring and generosity.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives at East Haven Funeral Home, 57 Grand Bay Road on Monday, December 30th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral services taking place on Tuesday, December 31st, 11 am at St. James Anglican Church, Channel officiated by Rev. Jane Allen, interment will follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in memory of Roy can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
