Helen June Fitzpatrick
1940 – 2019
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Helen June Fitzpatrick (nee Hynes) on December 9, at Leduc Community Hospital at the age of 79.
Helen was predeceased by her husband Maurice, and is survived by her brother Don, children Stephen (Audrey) and Tara (Jerry) as well as grandchildren Fenya, Glory and Jason.
Born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Helen married Maurice in 1966, living in Newfoundland and New Brunswick before coming to Leduc, Alberta in 1974.
In addition to being a committed and loving mother and homemaker, Helen also enjoyed her role and responsibilities as the wife of Leduc’s mayor for two terms. Helen was also a dedicated Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 108, working, volunteering and serving on the executive.
She and Maurice lived the RV lifestyle for seven years (and on her own for another four after his passing), travelling to Newfoundland before returning to divide their time between Leduc and communities in British Columbia each year.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 17, at 1:00 at St. David’s United Church, 4614 48 street, Leduc; flowers gratefully accepted. A time of fellowship will follow at Royal Canadian Legion Br. #108/ Murphy’s Public House (5014 49 street).
