Obituary of Gordon “Gordy” Lapierre
1947 – 2019
With great sorrow and sadness we announce that Gordy passed away peacefully at the Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening, December 3, 2019. Gordy was predeceased by his wife Yvonne (2017); his son Shawn Sr. (Susan of Timmins) (2017) and his son Michel (2006). Son of the late Ferdinand and Delia Lapierre. He is survived by his grandson, Shawn Jr.; his granddaughter, Chloe and greatgrandsons, Bryson and Noah. He is also survived by siblings: Norbert (Andrée), Leo (Lesley), Cecile Locke (late Ken), Sylvia Hogarth (late Bill) and Joe (Nicole). Predeceased by siblings: Maurice (late Janet Tearle) and Bea Okum (late John). Gordy took great pride in his family and all his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Les Costello Council 2403. Gordy worked in the mining industry for 40 years as a hoisting engineer for a while before eventually promoting to supervision. He later went into Health and Safety as a training coordinator until his retirement in 2011. Gordy believed that you are never too old to learn new skills and trades. During his work in the mining field, he managed to become a paramedic. He worked part time on land ambulance for 19 years and always showed admiration and respect for his fellow employees. Gordy may be best remembered as a talented and accomplished musician. He was a fantastic songwriter. Even during his regular working career, he managed to play and tour with some of the biggest names in Country Music. He was billed in his early days as “The Canadian Whistler”. He appeared on radio and television at a very early age and later built a recording studio in his home where he recorded many local artists and others to make souvenirs for their families. His wife, Yvonne, had lots of understanding and patience with Gordy during their lifetime together. She was a wonderful wife and helped him in so many ways. Gordy always considered himself an Ottawa Valley Boy from Arnprior, Ontario. He loved his heritage. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. The most important thing for Gordy and Yvonne was their faith. He was a dedicated practicing Catholic and always said that “as long as you believe in God and you make the effort to fulfill your life in good faith and be remorseful for your wrongdoings, everyone has the opportunity to take the road to a better world”. Gordy’s pain and suffering are finally over. Special thanks to Dr. Vaithlingham and all the doctors in Toronto for their efforts and care given to him during his lifetime. Gordy’s final care has been entrusted to the Pilon Family Funeral Home and Chapel Ltd., 50 John Street North, Arnprior where visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 8th from 2 to 5 p.m. and again on Monday morning, December 9th from 9:30 to 10:20.
