STANDISH, Angus Gilbert “Gil” (1928-2019) – passed away peacefully in Ottawa on Monday, December 30th, 2019 in his 92nd year. He will be remembered with great love and admiration as a wonderful man, husband, father and grandfather. Dear son of the late Angus and Florence Standish. Predeceased by his brothers Colin and Donnie and his sister Joyce. Beloved husband of the late Laura (nee Speir) Standish (2016). Cherished father of Ron (Sherri) and Nancy Page (Leon). Proud Grandfather of Geoff (Jenn), Cameron (Katherine), Graham (Melissa), Lisa (Jared) and Heather, and great granddaughter Noella. Also fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Gil was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec and grew up in Cookshire, Quebec. After graduating in 1949 with a BSC in Agriculture from McGill’s Macdonald College he enjoyed a long career of 32 years with International Harvester. He was a kind and gentle man who gave of himself to his family, his community and his church. He volunteered with many organizations throughout his lifetime and was honored to be Simcoe’s Citizen of the Year in 2001. We are comforted that he will be with us in spirit and in our memories. A Celebration of Life for Gil will be held at a later date. For those wishing to donate in memory of Gil, please consider St. Thomas Anglican Church, Rougemont, QC, Trinity Anglican Church, Simcoe, ON or a charity of ones choice.
