Gerald Marshall Franklin
Long time Hinton resident, Gerald Marshall Franklin passed away on December 6, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Gerald and his wife Betty (nee Stone) left the Kitscoty Lloydminster area and ventured to Hinton in 1956 with hopes of getting hired on at the new Pulp Mill. They were hired and worked at the mill in various departments for 35 years. Gerald was hired as part of the building crew and retired as a welder.
Gerald is survived by two nieces, Arlana Franklin and Sherry Waldorf and three nephews, Shane Franklin, Randy Franklin and Lee Franklin as well as his former brother-in-law, Robert Stone (June) and their four children. Gerald is also survived by a host of friends and his companion, friend and care-giver, Therese Pempeit.
Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Betty in 2009, his two brothers Verne and Darwin, and his parents Marshall and Ruby (Rainboth) Franklin.
Cremation has taken place and internment will take place privately at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Hinton. A Celebration of Gerald’s life will take place at a later time.
If anyone so desires, Gerald preferred donations be made to Resident Care Foundation, 114 Brule Street, Hinton, Alberta T7V 1M9, or to the Hinton Healthcare Centre, 1280 Switzer Drive, Hinton, Alberta T7V 1V2.
Thank you to Dr. Bradley Martin for not only the compassionate care Gerald received but also the respect and understanding Dr. Martin demonstrated to Gerald while he was under his care. We wish to also thank the nursing staff of Hinton Healthcare Centre. Special thanks to four nurses in particular, Cindy, Kristy, Kennedy and Laurence for the excellent devoted care Gerald received. They always treated Gerald with compassion, understanding and dignity.
